1995 Viña Bosconia Tinto Gran Reserva, Bodegas R. López de Heredia

Vina Bosconia Tinto Gran Reserva, Bodegas R. Lopez de Heredia
South-facing clay and limestone soils located at altitude give Bosconia wines their particularly full-bodied yet elegant style. The El Bosque vineyard was singled out by Maria José’s forebears as the source of wines of an almost Burgundian elegance;

indeed many moons ago, there was Pinot Noir here, known locally as ‘ Rioja Cepa Borgoña’ The blend today is more traditional, namely is 80% Tempranilo, 15% Garnacha and a very small volume of Mazuelo. The palate is dominated by dried fruits, with savoury elements and fine balancing acidity.

The Gran Reservas are only made in exceptional years and the 1995 was barrel aged for almost ten years (the maximum permitted in Rioja) with over 20 rackings. The palate is dominated by dried fruits, with savoury elements and fine balancing acidity. Great length and elegance, as one has come to expect from this superb House.
