Berrys' Ladies Lunch, The Twelve Wines of Christmas, 3rd December

Today we will discover which wines go best with festive classics such as smoked salmon, roast turkey and all the trimmings, a wonderful cheese called Beaufort and of course, Christmas pudding. At the same time we will be undertaking a vinous exploration of top white Burgundy, including a Premier Cru Puligny-Montrachet, (always such terrific value from Alain Chavy) an iconic Meursault from the King of Meursault, Patrick Javillier, as well as a very moreish Premier Cru Chassagne-Montrachet by Caroline L’Estimée of Domaine Jean- Noël Gagnard. Then we will have a special opportunity to try five very different wines with the main course, including a résumé of the key characteristics of grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah, Grenache and Riesling from very classic regions and highly esteemed producers. We won’t miss the opportunity to try two stonking clarets with a beautiful piece of Beaufort and allow a bullish moment to discuss these premium left and right bank styles which will take the form of Domaine de Chevalier from 1990 and the sublime l‘Evangile from Pomerol. Our finale with Christmas pud will take us to Hungary (Tokaji) and Germany (heavenly Icewine). Come along, have your say in what could be quite an animated discussion!
