The Great Wines of Spain Dinner, Friday 28th September 2012

Join the fun-loving, dry-witted Nicola Giacomelli for an evening of top Spanish producers and their delicious wines. Nicola has chosen an eclectic line-up that reveals the excitement of the Spanish wine stage from both traditionalists and modern challengers, who sit comfortably side-by-side. The curtain-raiser will be a remarkably high class and complex cava from the celebrated Gramona winery, before you tread the boards with an unusual grape variety called Godello. This will be tempered with the most traditional white wine you could imagine from Tondonia, dating back to 1993. You will next have an equally contrasting pairing in the form of the famous Valbuena (which now has such a dedicated following in its own right that it is no longer considered as the second wine of Vega Sicilia) alongside a fabulous Priorat, 2006 Trio Infernal 1/3 from Combier-Fischer-Gerin Associés, a wine which is also making headlines and exhibits a fabulously dense silky fruit with a highly mineral ‘torque’. The mood will be brought back down to earth with a sublime traditional Rioja, this time from Bosconia and dating back to 1991, with the final bow coming from an elegant Moscatel by Emilio Lustau.
