2011 Sauvignon de Touraine, Jean-Christophe Mandard

Sauvignon de Touraine, Jean-Christophe Mandard
A family business since 1870, this new name to Berrys is now led by Jean-Christophe whose been making the wines since 1993. Though the mode is for making tutti-frutti Touraine Sauvignons to rival the Kiwis, Mandard has stuck to his roots to make this true, understated, fleshy cassis wine that stands out for its grounded authenticity. Very moreish, a mini-Sancerre, especially with summer lunches and salads. Drinking but will keep.

Sauvignon de Touraine, Jean-Christophe Mandard
Light nose: guava, tiny bit of green passion fruit and grass. Cut glass acidity splintering across a palate of greengage and green fig. Plenty of flavour without brashness or that modern Sauvignon vulgarity.
