2011 Ch. Viranel, Rosé Tradition, AOC St Chinian, Southern France

Ch. Viranel, Rose Tradition, AOC St Chinian, Southern France
Château Viranel Rosé is a blend of 40% Syrah, 40 % Grenache and 20% Cinsault made from old vines grown on classic limestone soils. The Syrah and the Grenache have been macerated briefly by the Saignée method, but the Cinsault has been pressed directly from its skins.

The best St Chinian reds are amongst the very best in the Languedoc, for me marked out by their distinctive herbal aromas and finely etched tannins. This rosé shares something of thesegarrigue aromas and does not want for freshness; however its impressive mid-palate concentration means that it will be equally at home as an aperitif or with al fresco summer fare; our friends at Viranel are imaginative in their gastronomic selections; paella, Andalucian gazpacho, chicken in tarragon jelly and various other Mediterranean delights!
