2011 Gavi di Gavi, Bric Sassi, Roberto Sarotto, Piedmont

Gavi di Gavi, Bric Sassi, Roberto Sarotto, Piedmont
Drawing on the white calcareous soils of his single vineyard 'Bric Sassi' vineyard, located high up and catching the Ligurian light and sea breezes, this is very much a honeydew/elderflower blossom perfumed wine (alas Condrieu but much lighter), that's easy on the senses, with pretty fruit from this hot vintage charming you all the way. For drinking now as an aperitif or with sea fish.
(David Berry Green, BBR Buyer)Roberto Sarotto

Forty year old vines are used to make a refreshing wine full of citrus fruit, pears and red apple, intermixed with herbs, and with an impressively long finish. Can be an aperitif, but best with fish dishes. A huge step-up from the usual/neutral Gavi that you often find in pubs.
