Description

Drawing on the white calcareous soils of his single vineyard 'Bric Sassi' vineyard, located high up and catching the Ligurian light and sea breezes, this is very much a honeydew/elderflower blossom perfumed wine (alas Condrieu but much lighter), that's easy on the senses, with pretty fruit from this hot vintage charming you all the way. For drinking now as an aperitif or with sea fish.
(David Berry Green) Forty year old vines are used to make a refreshing wine full of citrus fruit, pears and red apple, intermixed with herbs, and with an impressively long finish. Can be an aperitif, but best with fish dishes. A huge step-up from the usual/neutral Gavi that you often find in pubs.

About this WINE

Cortese

Cortese

This white grape produces wines in the appellations of Cortese dell'Alto Monferrato, Colli Tortonesi as well as the DOCG wine of Gavi di Gavi. Cortese is a native grape variety of Alessandria in Piedmont and tends to perform best in the hills between Novi and Tortona in Piedmont. The grape has been so successful in Gavi (which is located in the south of Piedmont close to Liguria) that it is known there as Cortese di Gavi.

Typically produces wines that are pale lemon-white in colour, possess a fine fragrance and are steely and dry on the palate. The best examples can develop an intense honeyed richness with medium term ageing.
