Description

Château de la Negly is located in the delightful if unfortunately named enclave of La Clape, located close to the coast just to the west of Narbonne. The chalky soils and cooling sea breezes dictate the styles of the wines which are refreshing and elegant above all else. Negly is run by proprietor Jean-Paul Rosset who with his talented winemaker winemaker Cyril Chamontin helps to emphasise the quality of la Clape wines and to help it to free itself from the rather anonymous Coteaux de Languedoc umbrella and to power towards its own autonomous appellation status.

The blend of La Côte is 40% Carignan, 40% Grenache and 20% Syrah and the wine is aged in both cement and barrel. The 2009, protégée of a generous vintage, has a powerful nose of resinous herbs, bitter-sweet chocolate and smoky game. These facets, not least the power itself, are maintained on the palate; a fat fleshy specimen, drawn from the more indulgent works of Boucher, redeemed by hieratic purity on the finish.

About this WINE

Chateau la Negly

Chateau la Negly

Château De la Negly is a highly-rated Languedoc domaine that can trace its roots back to 1773. It is situated on the prime chalky terroir of La Clape in the Languedoc, in sight of the Mediterrnean, whose cooling breezes moderate the maturation.

The property had been owned by the famile Rosset for many years and were content sending their grapes to the local co-operative to be vinified. However it is only recently that current proprietor Jean-Paul Rosset and winemaker Cyril Chamontin have begun to realise the domaine's full potential.Today yields are severely restricted and the winery and cellars have been totally renovated. Grapes are no longer destioned for the co-operartive and a range of premium cuvées are produced.
