Description

Annalisa’s 2010 is more robino (ruby) in colour than her 2009, with fresher clove spice notes and a generally more prominent structure. The wine is deliciously balanced, harmonious and a joy to sip, even now. It is so lush, satiny even, and possesses that trademark Resta roll of strawberry and raspberry fruit.

‘Martin del Nero’ refers to the man whose name Annalisa found etched into the brickwork of the monastery’s cellar; he’s her spiritual guide if you will. Annalisa produced her first vintage in 2004; fermented in stainless-steel and aged in small French oak; oak which melts into the wine.

About this WINE

Resta, Tuscany

Resta, Tuscany

Fattoria Resta all 2 hectares of it lies on the site of a 16th century Franciscan monastery in the Val d’Orcia, basking in the glow of the great Montalcino hill.

The wine, a velvety 100% Sangiovese, is very much Anna Lisa's wine, and Anna Lisa's no ordinary 'gal': Mezza Americana, part time yoga teacher, DJ & passionate English football supporter (of which Club she hasn't divulged), she's also married to Claudio, aka ‘Mr. Altesino’, President of one of Montalcino top wine estates.

She began at the Chianti Classico Consorzio at the tender age of 19 before graduating to Montalcino’s Costanti. Homework completed she knew where to plant her vines: outside the monastery that serves as home for her family and wine.

‘Martin del Nero’ refers to the man whose name Annalisa found etched into the brickwork of the monastery’s cellar; he’s her spiritual guide if you will. Annalisa produced her first vintage in Fattoria Resta in 2004; fermented in stainless-steel and aged in small French oak; oak which melts into the wine.

Sangiovese

Sangiovese

A black grape widely grown in Central Italy and the main component of Chianti and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano as well as being the sole permitted grape for the famed Brunello di Montalcino.

It is a high yielding, late ripening grape that performs best on well-drained calcareous soils on south-facing hillsides. For years it was blighted by poor clonal selection and massive overcropping - however since the 1980s the quality of Sangiovese-based wines has rocketed upwards and they are now some of the most sought after in the world.

It produces wines with pronounced tannins and acidity, though not always with great depth of colour, and its character can vary from farmyard/leather nuances through to essence of red cherries and plums. In the 1960s the advent of Super Tuscans saw bottlings of 100% Sangiovese wines, as well as the introduction of Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon blends, the most famous being Tignanello.
