Description

The soils of D.O. Valdeorras are of clay, sand, slate and quartz, a combination which is near perfect (when combined with favourable weather and aspect) for the cultivation of grape-vines and the subsequent practice of wine-making.

This single-varietal Godello from Les Trois Amis (Franck, Dominique and Laura) is balanced, silky and elegant but it retains a very high level of acidity which lends a mineral edge to proceedings, a quality often attributed to the terroir mentioned above.

Franck Massard, the driving force behind the project goes so far as to say that the wine is ‘graceful, like the wild horse on the label, it gives the impression of movement’. An intriguing wine from a part of the world which continues to collect accolades and based on this showing, not without good reason!

About this WINE

Les 3 Amis

Les 3 Amis

Les 3 Amis is the project of three friends (amis in French), all specialists in and passionate about wine. Dominique Roujou de Boubée and Laura Montero are enologists and together they provide the viticulture and winemaking skills. Their passion for Galicia, and their belief in the potential of the region, encouraged them to move to Galicia to live close to the terroir. Franck Massard is the third “ami”; an ex-sommelier, he now focuses on sharing and distributing great wines from cooler climates.

Godello

Godello

Godello is a white grape variety primarily found in northwest Spain and northern Portugal. The grape is capable of producing very fine white wines, and it is in the Valdeorras region that its greatest successes are seen, leading to a steady increase in plantings there. Bodegas Rafael Palacios (managed by the brother of Spain’s leading winemaker Alvaro Palacios) has been the driving force behind the revival of the grape.

In Jancis Robinson MW words' "Godello combines the structure of white burgundy with the finesse of a juicily mineral grape".
