Description

This new addition to our range of single cask Berrys’ Own Selection bottlings of Single Malt Scotch Whisky illustrates beautifully the character that fresh American oak can influence upon a fruity Speyside spirit. The nose is exotic with mouth-watering mango, plump papaya and creamy coconut. The palate fleshes out this theme with rich marzipan and yellow glacé fruits. The finish of ripe kiwi and butterscotch envelops the palate and brings tempting thoughts of another sip. This cask yielded a grand total of 320 bottles and I would imagine it will not be available for long. We have a bottle open for tasting in our Spirits room so please do not hesitate to taste it with me next time you visit.

Aultmore Distillery

Aultmore Distillery

The Aultmore Distillery lies several miles north of the town of Keith on the eastern fringe of Speyside. It was founded in 1895 by Alexander Edward, son of David Edward and owner of Benrinnes. Alexander Edward was an important figure in the whisky scene; his ventures include Craigellachie and Oban distilleries.

The financial crisis in the whisky industry during Prohibition in the US forced the sale of Oban and Aultmore to new owners, John Dewar and Sons, in 1923. The distillery was renovated in 1970 and doubled its production to four stills.

Most of the production is used in blends like William Lawson’s Finest and Dewar’s. In fact, Aultmore single Malt wasn’t promoted until 2014 and is still relatively small as a proportion of production. The signature style shows a honeyed and toasty vanilla oak character, with 12-year-old, 18-year-old and 21-year-old bottlings and a 25-year-old and Exceptional Casks.
