Nicole and Nathalie Lamarche's holding of premier cru Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes amounts to just over half a hectare. This vineyard lies just below and to the south of La Tâche, on the Nuits-St-Georges side of the village. It has a little more clay in the soil than most, so the wines tend to body more than the quintessential elegance of Vosne-Romanée. Having said which, Nicole Lamarche’s refined approach to winemaking restores an element of finesse. The only drawback of the 2006 vintage is that it has been overshadowed by the monumental 2005s. Despite that 2006 is a notable pleasure-giving vintage which is just starting to approach maturity.
