2007 Savigny-lès-Beaune, Vieilles Vignes Domaine Potel

Savigny-les-Beaune, Vieilles Vignes Domaine Potel
The wines of Savigny-lès-Beaune have been described in years gone by as théologiques, nourrissants et morbifuges, which last word broadly speaking means that they chase away disease – though we do not make any real claims for health benefits. They are lovely wines though, with an appealing red fruit character that offers much enjoyment.

Nicolas Potel in charge of a thriving negociant business for the previous 10 years, set up his own domaine alongside it in 2007.

This cuvée of Savigny vieilles vignes is assembled from four different plots including Les Pimentiers which was planted in 1913, so the vines really can claim to be old. A notable characteristic of the domaine’s vinification is the use of whole bunch fermentation, which adds a smoky and spicy dimension to the fruit.Domaine de Bellene

An attractive Savigny les Beaune by winemaker Nicolas Potel with a real sense of place. Half the blend is made up of declassified 1er Cru adding complexity and weight to the mid palate. The wine’s light open structure is immediately appealing and a fresh note of bright red fruit very attractive.
Sara Guiducci, BBR Fine WineDomaine de Bellene

This was the first vintage from Nicolas Potel’s own property, before the name was changed to Domaine de Bellene. Beginning to mature, the bouquet offers smoky, spicy, lifted red fruit notes and a soft, easy mouthful of fruit on the palate. This is a lovely wine to drink now.
