1981 Meursault Perrières, 1er Cru Selection Nicolas Potel

Meursault Perrieres, 1er Cru Selection Nicolas Potel
Nicolas Potel has found this parcel of exceptional mature Meursault for us. 1981 was much more successful for white wines than red in Burgundy, and this wine still has the ability to develop further. It is pleasingly full-bodied, with enough acidity to have retained its fruit and balance.

Meursault Perrieres, 1er Cru Selection Nicolas Potel
This has an authentic old Burgundy nose with a slight decaying leaves character, but also a delightful glimpse of honey still there. Fruit on the palate retains some punch too, with much more zing than the ’92 Meursault Sous Blagnys also tasted, and even a bit of lemony zest to it. Not enormously complex, but for a 28-year-old 1er Cru Meursault in excellent condition for drinking now, it's a fair deal.
