Heavy red meats tend to be reserved for the barbecue in Summer. The rich caramelised smoky flavours of char-grilled meat are best paired with more tannic, fruitier wines,  and this case comprises all you need to match. The Australian Shiraz or a Claret will go well with grilled steaks, burgers and sausages. Grilled tomatoes take on a richer flavour that suits deeper reds, such as the Italian Aglianico or the Rigoria from Sicily, whereas roasted vegetables and barbecue lamb will match the reds from Rioja or the Rhône.
