Largely unknown elsewhere - even to my learned colleagues at BB&R - Antão Vaz is a highly regarded varietal in its native Alentejo. Difficult to gauge its attributes from a single wine but this blend with Verdelho and Viognier is a harmonious one. The nose attractively grassy; Viognier contributes weight and subtle stone fruit flavours to the palate. There’s a lick of lemon acidity to finish, a hallmark of Verdelho. Modest (in only a positive sense), charming and very, very easy to enjoy. Will Heslop, Buying Team
