Description

Made especially for us by Viña Quintay, an excellent producer with extensive and varied vineyard holdings situated in the cool-climate region of Casablanca Valley, this is textbook Sauvignon Blanc with vibrant green fruit aromatics and ripe yet refreshing tropical notes on the palate. Lees ageing has added texture, making this not only a perfect apéritif but also a great match to a variety of fish, vegetable and goat's cheese dishes.
Catriona Feldstead MW, Wine Buyer

Unmistakably Sauvignon Blanc - sure to delight anybody that has ever revelled in Sauvignon’s aromatic, easy-drinking  persona. Masses of mown lawn, nettle leaf and passion fruit jostle for your attention as they leap forth from the glass. Soft, ripe fruit flavours contribute to a tremendously balanced palate where everything is plentiful but nothing overbears.
Jared Ehret, London Shop Sales Advisor
Just as you can learn much from a restaurant’s house wine, you should also be able to judge a wine merchant by its own-label bottles, and we wouldn't put our name to anything which wasn't delicious to drink. Our range of Highly Dependable wines is just that: a marque that stands for reliable good value, and taste, be it a classic Argentinian Malbec or our carefully-crafted Reserve White.

About this WINE

Vina Quintay

Vina Quintay

Quintay is situated in the valleys of Casablanca and Leyda, which are regarded as Chile’s quintessential cool climate regions for wines of elegance, and testament to its obvious winemaking potential. The vineyards of Quintay are significantly influenced by the cold Humbolt current, which runs down the length of Chile, where cool air is pulled in by the warmer central valley, thus providing a natural coolness throughout the growing season. Their wines focus on viticulture principles in order to reflect commitment to winemaking as an expression of terrior.

Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc

An important white grape in Bordeaux and the Loire Valley that has now found fame in New Zealand and now Chile. It thrives on the gravelly soils of Bordeaux and is blended with Sémillon to produce fresh, dry, crisp  Bordeaux Blancs, as well as more prestigious Cru Classé White Graves.

It is also blended with Sémillon, though in lower proportions, to produce the great sweet wines of Sauternes. It performs well in the Loire Valley and particularly on the well-drained chalky soils found in Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, where it produces bone dry, highly aromatic, racy wines, with grassy and sometimes smoky, gunflint-like nuances.

In New Zealand, Cloudy Bay in the 1980s began producing stunning Sauvignon Blanc wines with extraordinarily intense nettly, gooseberry, and asparagus fruit, that set Marlborough firmly on the world wine map. Today many producers are rivalling Cloudy Bay in terms of quality and Sauvignon Blanc is now New Zealand`s trademark grape.

It is now grown very successfully in Chile producing wines that are almost halfway between the Loire and New Zealand in terms of fruit character. After several false starts, many South African producers are now producing very good quality, rounded fruit-driven Sauvignon Blancs.
