Description

Our One Day Introductory Wine School is a relaxed yet educational experience, designed to introduce you to the basics of wine tasting and the classic grape varieties. Our approach here at Berry Bros. & Rudd is to equip you with a huge amount of confidence in your tasting ability so that when you leave you will feel much more relaxed about choosing wine from a wine list or a wine merchant. You will taste examples of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Tempranillo, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. We also discuss key components in wine such as acidity, alcohol, flavour, oak ageing and maturity; all along you will compare and contrast the wines in pairs to help you to understand why you prefer the wines that you do. Very soon you will be signalling the difference between Pouilly-Fumé and Pouilly-Fuissé and waxing lyrical about the qualities of Left Bank versus Right Bank Clarets.

The morning tutorial is followed by a superb four-course Food and Wine Matching Luncheon during which you will have the chance to practise your newfound skills with a fun blind tasting challenge.

One Day Wine School

One Day Wine School

Our one-day wine schools are a great way to get a thorough overview of a region in a day.

Starting in the morning with tea and coffee on arrival, we spend around 2 hours exploring the region, with 8-12 wines showcasing all different styles. With the basics covered, we head to our vaulted Napoleon cellar for an aperitif and to put the morning’s education to the test with 5 more wines paired over a delicious lunch, crafted by Head Chef Stewart Turner.

The day finishes around 3.30pm.
