Description

Traditional Fino wine is usually non-sweet and is best consumed shortly after the bottle is opened in order to avoid losing its flavour. Kavalan's Fino-matured whisky, however, provides mild sweetness that excites the palate. Solist Fino was matured in top Fino Sherry butts that were used for the wine making.

Nose: The rich aroma of sherry, with its creamy toffee and rich fudge qualities, and the slightest hint of chocolate blends with the fruity character of the spirit. The fruitiness is a complex, multi-layered blend of mango and over-ripe citrus fruit flavours that ends with a touch of green apples.

Palate: Natural sweetness on the tongue is accentuated with a gentle fudge flavour. The complex fruity flavours are layered with dry smoked wood aromas. This special anniversary edition of Solist cask strength whisky has a long finish and natural sweetness giving way to a pleasant mouth-drying sensation.

Other
Nose
Woody. Overcooked marmalade. Walnut stain. Candied orange.
Palate
Aggressively bitter. This is a wood infusion. The skin of a fresh walnut.
Finish
Bitter with a touch of liquorice (but the bitter root).
Comment
Bitter all the way. No balance. One dimensional. To try only if you are a ‘woodfreak'. Surprisingly, water tones the bitterness down.

Martine Nouet - Whisky Magazine Issue 95 Nose
Erm...sherry. Then creamy toffee and rich fudge. A little dried orange peel and mango.
Palate
Sweet and that fudge note comes through. Seems to have a bitter burnt wood tone to it too.
Finish
Drying and moreish.
Comment
One for the sherry heads, but pleasant enough.

About this SPIRIT

King Car Whisky Distillery

King Car Whisky Distillery

King Car Whiskey Distillery started its life with extensive research carried out by its team in Scotland, to see whether whiskey production would be a feasible process in Taiwan. The chairman of the company made the decision to go ahead, and personally picked the style of Scottish stills and the spirit that would be used. King Car also brought in a professional Scottish master distiller, whose specialised skills were used in the production of the whiskey.

Although the tools used in the making of the whiskey were very innovative, the spirit itself was kept very traditional.Combined with Taiwan’s advanced technology and unique natural resources, King Car grew, and its production capacity increased to nine million bottles a year.

King Car Distillery is located on the borders of the Yi-Lan Mountain and the Pacific Ocean. When the ocean mist and mountain wind mix, they produce a ‘breathing’ function for the whiskey filled wood casks, which gives the spirit its unique flavour.
