1978 The Glenrothes

The Glenrothes
The Glenrothes 1978 Vintage is the latest expression from the distillery and, with very limited availability, is almost certainly the very last Glenrothes from the 1970s. It comprises a small selection of casks, hand-picked by Malt Master John Ramsay, at the very peak of their maturity. John Ramsey describes it as "...rich vanilla, fruit compote and intense spice". The bottle is packaged in a copper and oak frame, reflecting the distillation and maturation which create the whisky's flavours. The Glenrothes 1978 Vintage has been voted the "Best Speyside Single Malt" at the World Whiskies Awards 2008, organised by Whisky Magazine. The Glenrothes Distillery, Speyside

Rob Allanson describes 1978 Vintage as having "bags of oranges and plenty of mint. Deliciously floral and thoroughly Glenrothes."
Whisky writer Dominic Roskrow adds "long, rich and spicy; dripping with class".
Ronnie Cox's (Whisky Magazine's Ambassador of the year for 2008) tasting notes: "Masses of plummy spice and rich honeyed treacle on the nose. Wonderful, cooked fruit compote, caramel fudge and orange syrup. Silky delivery, with a long, spicy finish."
"Another 70’s classic from The Glenrothes. Delicious, well structured and beautifully balanced."
Marcin Miller, Founder of Whisky Magazine
