2009 Ch. Potensac, Médoc

Ch. Potensac, Medoc
Ch. Potensac lies in the Northern Medoc, an area renowned for structured wines that reward time in the cellar, and this is an extremely reliable and popular claret from the Leoville-Lascases team that won't break the bank. In years like 2009 it has an extra punch, and the ripeness of the year shines through. This has typical blackberry fruit balanced by a fresh minerality and a well-defined structure around the sweet core. As always, this will age well, ideally wanting ten years or so to show its best.

Dense red, fine floral concentration, very good Médoc with depth, length and class.

Very deep crimson. Minerals and great ripeness. But very much restrained by a corset of structure. Great lift and pzazz. Not at all a country wine, not too chewy. But very serious. This has a really long term future.

Ch. Potensac, Medoc
A sleeper of the vintage, the 2009 is probably the finest Potensac ever made, eclipsing even the stunning 1982. This blend, dominated by both Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, hit 13.9% alcohol, but the pH is a normal 3.58. Dense, rich, and full-bodied with lots of freshness, the wine reveals abundant red and black currant fruit, a distinctive minerality, and a plush, full-bodied mouthfeel. It should drink well for 10-15+ years.

Intense aromas of currant and blackberry, with hints of licorice, follow through to a full body, with a balance of tannins and a spearmint and mineral aftertaste.
