2008 Puligny-Montrachet, Les Folatières, 1er Cru, Domaine Alain Chavy

Puligny-Montrachet, Les Folatieres, 1er Cru, Domaine Alain Chavy
The Chavys’ biggest holding of premier cru is in the Folatières vineyard where 40+ year old vines contribute to the quality of the wine. There is lots of character here, with a nice grassy component, some depth that builds to the back and a fine long finish. Rich for the vintage, this is always the best of the Chavy Premier Cru wines.

Puligny-Montrachet, Les Folatieres, 1er Cru, Domaine Alain Chavy
A bit of unabsorbed sulfur is still present as is a touch of reduction though I suspect that both will dissipate with another 6 months or so of bottle age. The vibrant and intensely mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors possess good dry extract and delineation on the focused if only moderately complex finish. This is solid but not at the same level as its Puligny 1er counterparts.
