Champagne de Sousa, Brut Rosé, Grand Cru

Champagne de Sousa, Brut Rose, Grand Cru
Pink bubbles are not just for Valentine's Day. That much is clear from Britain's growing appetite for rosé champagne in recent years. When it comes down to it, though, this is still bling: so none of them are cheap. Grower champagnes, grown and made by small producers are one alternative. De Sousa Rosé NV Grand Cru is creamy and relatively full, although still elegant.
Andrew Neather, Discerning drinker: pink fizz, London Evening Standard, 9 February 2012

The Brut Rosé is made by the assemblage method with the Montagne de Noirs Pinot aged in oak for a year before its addition to the base wine, which is made entirely from Chardonnay, in itself unusual in a Rosé but in this instance highly successful. The wine has a beautiful amber-pink hue and attractive aromas of orchard fruit and red berries. The Chardonnay lends a creamy, slightly peachy flavour, with hints of quince, mandarin and aniseed all evidenced. A very complete and satisfying rosé, discrete but distinctive.

Champagne de Sousa

This has a salmon pink, copper-tinted hue and a nose redolent of roses, violets and also redcurrants, raspberries and wild strawberries. On the palate, these fruits develop a liqueur-like texture, counterbalanced by light citrus and mineral elements from the Chardonnay.
