2007 Viñas de Gain, Artadi, Rioja

Vinas de Gain, Artadi, Rioja
This wonderful, youthful wine is resplendent with bright fruit and it is much more serious than most Spanish Tempranillos at this price. On the palate the well measured and elegant oak comes into play without dominating the fruit, with both combining effortlessly to provide dark spices and black tea, all finished off with a refreshing, precise acidity. Although this is wonderful now - and the acidity makes one think a portion of pork belly would suit - it will also drink well over the coming three years, till 2014.
(Gary Owen, Cellar Plan Advisor)Artadi

Made from 100% Tempranillo on Rioja Alavesa limestone, the Vinas De Gain cuvée goes from strength to strength. After the rather variable conditions of 2006, 2007 was equally temperamental, with a rainy spring, and cool midsummer, all redeemed once again by an Indian summer.

The wine exhibits generous notes of hedgerow, wild strawberry and Indian spice, with the French oak affording structure and grip. The ripeness of fruit is tempered by the finely-knit tannins and the acidity is finely balanced. Black fruit, tea and spice feature in my tasting descriptions .A classic and traditional match for suckling lamb.
