The flagship wines of the Rupert estate bear this name, and represent the pinnacle of the winery’s winemaking prowess. Grapes are selected from carefully chosen individual sites and are double-sorted to remove unripe berries before being fermented. Ageing then takes place for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels before being bottled unfiltered , after which they are kept for another year before release onto the market.

The 2006 displays a typical Merlot nose of ripe plums with notes of cocoa and chocolate. On the palate the flavours of plum persist with hints of vanilla and spice, and the tannins are exceptionally well-managed, providing a framework to the wine but no austere harshness. Ready to drink now but still capable of improving for several more years.
