A perfect, early drinking intro to the world of Montalcino & especially to the artisan wines of Fonterenza. Twins Francesca & Margherita planted this family estate only in 1999, tending the vines and making the wines as naturally & lovingly as possible without recourse to an external consultant. 2008 was a rich, fleshy, accessible vintage for lapping now & for years to come. Best with grilled sausages.

Dried herbs, tobacco and delicate briar notes dominate the nose, before a palate that is crisp, crunchy and fresh, the redcurranty, cherryish fruited wreathed in a little smoke and ash, and the finish shows a little spice. This organic wine is the opposite of blockbuster with its fresh acidity and light mid-palate weight, but is delicate, decisive and delicious.
