The Le Clos has an intriguing nose that both I and our Wine Buying Director, Alun Griffiths, immediately described in terms more usually reserved for an Islay Whisky: smoke, flint, iodine and even hints of peat. The more usual descriptors return on the palate, with black fruits holding court with notes of lavender and leather in support.Domaine Montirius

Liquorice, jewelly, very round yet fresh. Medium bodied and a little taut and drying on the end but very well intentioned.

From an 8ha vineyard surrounded by a 10ha forest, this wine is 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah. It had the nose of a great pâté forestiere and a dry, round, soft, plummy palate with hints of salt caramel and flint, and dry on the finish. An elegant wine for such a rustic nose.
