2009 Chablis, Domaine Pinson

Chablis, Domaine Pinson
Domaine Pinson is a long established business based in the small town of Chablis. The domaine rose to prominence under Louis Pinson who eventually retired in 1983 having made some fabulous old style Chablis wines. His great grand-daughter, Charlène, along with her father, Laurent and her uncle Christophe have now taken over. There is a Rue Pinson in Chablis, dating back to an earlier generation when three Pinson brothers lived in identical houses in the street.

Everything is hand-harvested, with sorting of the grapes both in the vineyard and at the winery. Fermentation is mostly in stainless steel using selected yeasts, then the grander wines are transferred to barrel for the maturation process. This cuvee of straight Chablis remains in stainless steel for bottling before the next harvest.

2009 was an opulent vintage in Chablis with flesh and fruit covering the usually rather austere bone structure of this appellation. However the classical marine mineral flavours of Chablis soon emerge on aeration.

Domaine Pinson

Chablis, Domaine Pinson
A fruity white and yellow orchard fruit nose leads to utterly delicious and easy to like middle weight flavors that are quite forward if not especially complex. I do like the energy and personality though.
