2009 Côtes du Rhône, Domaine de L'Espigouette

Cotes du Rhone, Domaine de L'Espigouette
Bernard Latour started working with his father Edmond in the 1980s and now runs the property on his own. He has seen the coming of age of the Plan de Dieu, that magnificent almost luminous plateau which separates the River Rhône from the foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirial. This Côtes du Rhône is produced from a blend of 75% Grenache with the remaining 25% a mix of Carignan, Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault.

The wine is vinified traditionally and is matured in oak foudres for 6 months before being bottled. Dark textured fruit indulges the palate with black pepper, cloves and a hint of licorice in the background. 2009 was a very generous rich vintage in the region, and is here given a worthy outing by one of its best producers.
