Maxime, with characteristic individuality, cites 2006 as his favourite recent vintage; it is easy to identify the relatively easy charm of this slightly undervalued year in his 2009, less overtly tannic than 2005, perhaps a little longer than the 2007. A truly delightful syrah from the northern Rhône that reminds me of brambles and damsons undercut with granite. Satisfying and textured. I tried this on ex-super-sommelier Matt Wilkin’s H2Vin stand at a tasting for restaurant buyers and was thrilled to find that Berry Brothers stocks it too.
