2006 Toolangi Vineyards, Estate Pinot Noir, Victoria, Australia

Toolangi Vineyards, Estate Pinot Noir, Victoria, Australia
The Estate Pinot Noir was hand-picked, totally de-stemmed and fermented in open-top fermenters with 10% whole bunches added. This latter practice is becoming more widespread as winemakers believe it can add structure and substance to the silky texture of Pinot Noir. After fermentation in French oak the wine remained in barrel for a further 10 months prior to bottling.

The bouquet displays aromas of morello cherry and hints of spice and forest floor, indicating then onset of maturity. Velvet-textured on the palate; the tannins are much in evidence, but as they are ripe and rounded they are not in the least intrusive, instead offering a supporting note of structure and imparting longevity. Superb length on the finish, and a real alternative to good Burgundy at this price.
