2010 Sancerre, Les Monts Damnés, Domaine François Cotat, Chavignol

Sancerre, Les Monts Damnes, Domaine Francois Cotat, Chavignol
Francois has been busy replanting four parcels of Savignon Blanc that lie on the Monts Damnes escarpment. The Monts Damnes vineyard displays a very singular character; arguably the most stereotypical expression of Sancerre, providing the owner treats the fruit respectfully.

Cool, level-headed, Francois Cotat's example in 2010 also has a white peach character, an extra gear of ripeness that probably stems from his decision to harvest from the 4th Oct 2010, compared to a week earlier in 2009; note that Francois last had to add sugar (chaptalised) in 2004. 'Plus de fond' than the delicate 'Caillottes', the peachy character is streamlined with crunchy, racy minerality; a thoroughbred that I suggest needs to be left until 2013 at least before drinking, ideally longer.
