2010 Camel Valley, Darnibole Bacchus

Camel Valley, Darnibole Bacchus
UK 2011 Winemaker of the Year, Sam Lindo (Bob's son in case you hadn't guessed) makes this eponymous single-vineyard Bacchus from older vines grown on a particularly slatey sub-soil. This combination serves both to enhance the aromatics, with gooseberry and greengage to the fore, and to underline inherent complexity. Crisp acidity and a clean refreshing finish complete the picture. Cornwall clearly aspires to the style of the wines of the Loire and Bacchus seems to be the varietal set to lead the charge.
(Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer) Camel Vineyard (Cornwall)

Camel Valley, Darnibole Bacchus
Made from bacchus, a cross-bred variety (silvaner x riesling) that tends to be dull in its native Germany, but has adapted to the English climate to produce a dry, lively character with hedgerow aromas of hot soil and hawthorn blossom.

Brisk and floral from old Cornish vines.
Bob Tyrer, The Sunday Times, 30 October 2011
