2010 Verdejo, Bodegas Monteabellón

Verdejo, Bodegas Monteabellon
Nowhere is Verdejo more at home than in the north-west Denominacion of Rueda, sandwiched between the old cities of Valladolid, Segovia and Avila.

Historically one of the great grapes of Spain, the Verdejo fell a little from grace when it was felt that its wines oxidised too quickly, thereby loosing poise and freshness. Modern winemaking has addressed this comprehensively and the best examples, such as this elegantly packaged wine from Monteabellón, are both perfectly poised and perfectly fresh!

And, most importantly, the wine has lost none of the rich, peachy character for which this variety is well known. The wine seems to bridge the stylistic gap between the citric and the tropical ends of the spectrum with great ease, capturing the best qualities of both.
