2006 Barbaresco Rabajà, Cascina Luisin

Barbaresco Rabaja, Cascina Luisin
Despite being one of Barbaresco's most perfectly sited vineyards with marne soils giving broad shouldered, deep-seated Nebbiolo that have more in common with Barolo than filigree Barbaresco, the potential of Rabaja is realised only in a couple of cantine. One of them being Cascina Luisin, which takes a traditional view of this most traditional vineyard.

So only large slavonian botte are used, framing the dark, brooding, chicory/brambly aromas; it has the presence of a brewing storm. Not dissimilar to the wines of (Barolo producer) Marcarini in style, resolutely 'high church' with coffee, spice and refreshingly brisk acidity. The whole act is underpinned by the tight kernel of fruit courtesy of the excellent 2006 vintage. One for laying down and drinking from 2016.
