2009 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge, Domaine Louis Carillon

Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge, Domaine Louis Carillon
Until the second half of the 20th century Chassagne-Montrachet produced much more red wine than white. There is still slightly more pinot than chardonnay at village level, even though the village may be more famous for its top white wines. For the most part though the soil is clearly more suited to red, providing wines of firm structure to support the abundance of fruit.

The carillons have been making wine in the next door village of Puligny-Montrachet since 1572, though change is afoot. 2009 is the last vintage of Domaine Louis Carillon before it splits between the two sons, Jacques and François. The old domaine is finishing on a high note however with the glorious 2009 vintage.

In short, this is a super succulent red Burgundy wine from a classic domaine in the outstanding 2009 vintage.Louis Carillon
