Bacchus and Seyval Blanc are the two grape varieties battling it out for the accolade as the best of British whites, once perhaps rather a dubious crown, floating uneasily on a sea of tart mediocrity……….but now both are producing wines of real character, energy and focus.

The Chapel Down Bacchus is a splendid example, with a complex nose of chalk, grilled almond and hawthorn then a palate which has Sauvignonesq nettles and capsicum and a clean and refreshing finish. An excellent summer wine.
