2010 Ch. le Boscq, St Estèphe

Superb colour, rich Merlot-dominated nose and lots of plummy fruit, a really good fleshy wine with a good future.

A terrific sleeper from the firm of Dourthe that owns this property, the 2010 Le Boscq is composed of 51 % Merlot, 46 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. Monsieur Olan is the consulting oenologist at this estate and seems to have hit pay dirt with the 2010, a major sleeper of the vintage. Opaque ruby/purple with oodles of creme de cassis, graphite and spring flowers, this wine also shows some intriguing foresty notes. Quite pure, rich, medium to full bodied with sweet tannin and adequate acidity, it will drink well for 10-15 years.

This estate is sandwiched between Calon Segur and Sociando Mallet in the northern tier of the Medoc. Their 2010 is a blend of 51% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Opaque ruby-colored, with notes of damp earth, black currants, and incense, the wine is medium-bodied and displays good fruit purity, excellent texture and sweet tannin. It should drink nicely for a decade or more.
