Within the Anthonij Rupert range the Protea label represents a fruit-driven, accessible style of wine with minimal new oak influence. The grapes are hand- sorted and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Maturation takes place either in tank or in old oak barrels, and the wines are bottled after about 8 months.

The bouquet shows an apple edge along with hints of tropical fruit and a touch of vanilla. On the palate there is a creamy texture along with apple and peach, and the finish is clean and crisp with a decidedly citrus tang. This would accompany fried fish very well, or is highly enjoyable served merely as an aperitif.
