Description

The beautiful natural park of Montsant provides a scenic backdrop to the granitic hillsides where the vines of Natur Montsant climb from 350 all the way up to 700 metres, the highest in the entire Denominacion. This wine has been aged for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak. It usually needs a little time to come round and the 2006 is now starting to open up…

The wine has a deep colour with a hint of violet at the rim; the nose combines dark fruit and savoury elements, a combination echoed on the palate which is both velvety and complex. Ripe and quite chewy tannins, but not too much extraction; berry fruit flavours dominate, with the oak nicely integrated and a persistent finish. Good with red meat, hard cheeses and game.

About this WINE

Natur Montsant

Natur Montsant

The vineyards of Catalonia (and by a rather contentious cultural extension those of Roussillon in Southern France) are providing some of the most fascinating and highly-praised wines at the moment. Here we encounter old friends Grenache, Carignan and Mourvedre, known of course to aficionados of the South of France, but given a Catalan twist, linguistically and stylistically, to become Garnacha, Carignena and Monastrell.

The DOC of Priorat, with its dramatic landscapes and equally precipitous prices, has stolen the local limelight, but surrounding it with a protective veil of long-established vineyards, Montsant is now ready for a little more recognition.
