Far too many Pinotage wines have a bouquet of burnt rubber, so much so that the varietal often provokes cynical smirks amongst wine professionals when mentioned. This example, however, is very much the exception which proves the rule; the bouquet is an explosion of ripe, succulent dark fruit, with notes of smoky spice and dark chocolate to the fore, too.

On the palate there is a freshness and a pleasing acidity, balanced by an integrated oak element, drawn from the wine’s 14-month ageing in French oak, half new and half one-year-old. Worth trying to prove that fine Pinotage is not an oxymoron!
