2002 Viña Gravonia Blanco Crianza, Bodegas R. López de Heredia

Vina Gravonia Blanco Crianza, Bodegas R. Lopez de Heredia
Gravonia is made with traditional aplomb from 50 year old Viura vines located on the bank of the Ebro, not far from the Bodega in Haro itself.

Aged for four years in American oak, this is the archetype of old-style white Rioja, with a nose of quince, beeswax, verbena and honeycomb and a palate that manages both to be outstandingly decadent yet reassuringly fresh; almonds, agrumes and apricots spill from the glass into the alliterative imagination and the taster is especially impressed by the poise and power of the finish. 2002 is not held in the great esteem reserved for 2001 and 2004, so it is no little tribute to the skill of Maria José that the wine is every bit as good as its immediate predecessor.
