2010 Rioja Blanco, Bodegas Muga

Rioja Blanco, Bodegas Muga
A stunning example of just how good a white Rioja can be. Its floral bouquet, enlivened by subtle hints of vanilla and oak, makes for a pleasing wine.
Daily Express Saturday, 21/01/2012

Made from 90% Viura and 10% Malvasia and farmed on the calcareous alluvial soils of the Oja and Tiró Valleys in La Rioja Alta, the Blanco confirms the subtle and most satisfying sea-change that has informed the style of white Rioja of late. Oak has certainly been employed but is far from overwhelming; on the contrary it offers a pleasing nose of Spring flowers with a gentle back-drop of vanillin and hazelnut, all underlined by a palate which is crisp yet rounded, with attractive nectarine and apple fruit, impressive length and real poise.

Rioja Blanco, Bodegas Muga
The 2010 Blanco is a blend of 90% Viura and 10% Malvasia fermented in new French oak where it remained sur lie for 4 months. White flowers, mineral, melon, and mineral notes inform the nose of this tasty, lively, impeccably balanced wine. This lengthy effort is an outstanding value for drinking over the next 3-4 years.
