2006 Côte-Rôtie, Les Grandes Places, Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin

Cote-Rotie, Les Grandes Places, Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin
Jean Michel farms 1.3 hectares on the eponymous Lieu-Dit, located on the steep schistous slopes behind the hamlet of Verenay, itself a couple of kilometres to the north of Ampuis. 100% Syrah and aged in new wood, the cuvée is celebrated for its spicy almost earthy character. The 2006 is typically expressive with violets, wood-smoke and hints of iron and leather evidenced. Should be getting into its stride after 2015 and hold for another five years or so thereafter.
