2008 Berrys' St Emilion, Ch. Simard

Berrys' St Emilion, Ch. Simard
Good St Emilion should possess an enticing nose of ripe plums with hints of berry fruit, a silky softness on the palate and a complex finish with moderate tannins and fresh acidity. On the whole wines from this region are more approachable young than their Medoc counterparts, and this example is a perfect illustration of what I mean.

The greatest of all St Emilions is the legendary Chateau Ausone, of which only 1,000 cases are produced annually, and with a stellar price tag to match. Ausone’s owner, Alain Vauthier, owns a clutch of other properties in St Emilion and it is to him that we turned in our search for a classically-styled wine. This example benefits from all of Alain’s meticulous attention to detail and wine-making skill and is absolutely delicious to drink now and over the next 4-5 years.
