2008 Pommard, Rugiens, 1er Cru, Domaine de Montille

Pommard, Rugiens, 1er Cru, Domaine de Montille
Deeper in colour than de Montille’s Pézérolles and altogether more closed, this Pommard 1er Cru wine holds a great deal in reserve, as befits Rugiens. Lock this away for the best part of a decade.Domaine de Montille

Some vegetal note on the nose and then very sweet fruit. Gentle. Sweet but not that dense. Not sure this is worth the money. Dry notes on the finish. 17/20

Pommard, Rugiens, 1er Cru, Domaine de Montille
Tasted at the IMW 2008 tasting at Vintners Hall. There is just a touch of herbaceousness on the nose, although with further aeration it is more of a tertiary character with good definition. The palate is very well balanced with a creamy entry, firm backbone coming through towards the finish with redcurrant, raspberry, bay leaf and a touch of white pepper. Dry and a little austere towards the finish but one can only admire its uncompromising nature.
