Vernay’s top Cuvée is a 100% Syrah from an eponymous vineyard, located just to the north of Condrieu. Richer, more peppery masculine than the Blonde de Seigneur, Vernay’s other Côte Rôtie, this needs a little more time, its palate showing a little more of the oak at the moment, together with a chocolate richness and a pleasing hint of wood-smoke. Will soften and gain complexity over the next five years, and age gracefully thereafter.
