Located close to the convergence of Rivers Ebro and Alhama, the Cientruenos vineyard is wonderfully unprepossessing. According to Javier Continente; ‘here the North Wind Blows and the tumble weeds pile up’. A Sergio Leone film set in other words, but hopefully without the violence, even if its name literally means ‘a hundred thunders’…

What we do have are statuesque centurion Garnacha vines, farmed organically, or, less euphemistically and more accurately, with minimal intervention. Vines of this age dig deep and know how to look after themselves. The density of flavour and lapidary confidence on the finish bear witness to the quality of the fruit; dates, damsons, sun-dried herbs and real generosity of spirit.
