2007 Tenuta di Valgiano, Colline Lucchesi Rosso

Tenuta di Valgiano, Colline Lucchesi Rosso
...and so it follows that this, the flagship Tenuta di Valgiano wine must be the aristocratic face of the property. One sniff says it all: a sublime, seductive persistence held aloft by quivering (biodynamic) acidity. The blend of old vine Sangiovese (60%) and Merlot/Syrah (40%) displays a beguiling creaminess, a beautiful roll of fruit & effortless sense of poise that makes you just sigh.

The wines of the Colline Lucchesi may be fairly unknown but this gem is right up there with the best of Tuscany, thanks to ancient vineyards, sandstone and calcareous soils, and unswerving commitment to biodynamic principles. Moreno Petrini & Laura di Collobiano's cellar is well stocked with blue-chip Bordeaux & Bourgogne, so little surprise as to what level they aspire to. Great, & irresistible now due to the charming character of the vintage but this wine will run & run...
