2009 Berrys' Extra Ordinary Claret

Berrys' Extra Ordinary Claret
Extra Ordinary Claret has, since its inception, been a vintage wine and it’s now in a purple patch as we have the glorious 2009 to offer with the equally attractive 2010 to follow. The success of 2009 as a vintage was based, understandably, on the perfect weather cycle experienced throughout the growing season, imbuing the grapes with wonderful natural richness and concentration.

The result here is a wine of sumptuous approachability; the bouquet is rich with aromas of black plum, cassis and cream, while on the palate there is a seamless harmony between ripe berry fruit, fresh acidity and the two principal grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The oak adds a further creamy texture at this stage but this will dissipate with age and allow the fruit to express itself more fully in time.

The substantial tannins are exceptionally well managed and leave no trace of harshness or austerity, and the wine shows impressive length. Overall, a really fine, classy claret, eminently drinkable now but capable of ageing for a few years more.
