2007 Cedro do Noval, Vinho Regional Duriense, Quinta Do Noval

Cedro do Noval, Vinho Regional Duriense, Quinta Do Noval
A big fat wine with a touch of BBQ and tobacco about it.
Kate Spicer, The Sunday Times – On the Bottle, June 2012

Port house Noval was a recent convert to table wine, but the move has been a success. Unusually for the Douro, there's a little bit of syrah in here which adds peppery spice and sinew to a meaty red.
David Williams, The Observer, February 2012

An unfortified wine from Quinta Do Noval is an event indeed, and one that has been well worth the wait. Made from 30% Touriga Nacional, 30% Touriga Franca , 10% Tinta Roriz and 30% ....drum- roll…..Syrah…..the wine combines the traditional ‘port’ varieties with the innovation from the Syrah. And does so rather well, the Syrah lending shape but also a silky charm to the fruit profile.

The excellent 2007 vintage has ensured ripeness, but the superb winemaking team have been careful to avoid over-ripness or over-extraction. The palate is therefore both silky and savoury, with a character, almost floral, which gives it an identity all of its own.

Cedro do Noval, Vinho Regional Duriense, Quinta Do Noval
New product. 30% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Franca, 10% Tino Cao, 35% Syrah. Nicely balanced and evolved. Seems almost spritzy! Certainly very balanced and lively - fills all the gaps. I really like this unusual blend, even if it is halfway across the Pyrenees into France rather than pure Douro... A bit tamer than the 2006.
